Which Hearing Care Professional Should I See?

Perhaps more so than in other health care fields, the hearing care field can sometimes be difficult to navigate. During World War II, the profession of audiology was created, primarily to provide needed hearing health care to the thousands of veterans returning from battle with serious hearing conditions due to military noise exposure. At the same time, hearing aids were invented, and were initially “sold” to the public through salesmen representing the companies that manufactured those hearing aids.

Today, the traditional hearing aid dealer (also called, audio-prosthologist, hearing aid specialist, and hearing instrument specialist) is the extension of those original hearing aid salesmen. Today as well, audiologists have expanded their reach beyond the veterans population and now serve the entire population. With their advanced university training in the proper testing, diagnosis and treatment of hearing loss conditions, audiologists are best positioned to provide individuals with hearing health care focused on effective treatment, and not merely the promotion of hearing aid products.

AuDNet, Inc. is a nationwide network of independent audiology providers. All AuDNet audiologists have earned advanced university degrees in audiology, and are fully trained to interpret case histories, carefully test and evaluate all aspects of the auditory system, advise physicians on hearing loss and balance etiologies, and treat hearing loss and balance conditions that are not amenable to medical or surgical intervention.

The first consideration in seeking hearing care is the expertise and skill of the care giver. Through the AuDNet network of audiology providers, patients have an easy and effective way of insuring that they are receiving hearing care and treatment from qualified and highly trained audiologists.
