Ipod Ear Is On The Rise

If you are standing three feet away from a person using an Ipod, and YOU can hear the music, the person listening to the Ipod is at risk for hearing loss! In fact, some people may be going directly from listening to Ipods to wearing hearing aids. Hearing loss, which is often associated with aging, is occurring at younger and younger ages due to the increased noise “toxicity” of today’s lifestyles.

From Ipods to rifle hunting, to rock concerts and even lawn mowers and leaf blowers, people are continually subjecting themselves to noise levels which will, over time, permanently damage the hair cells in the inner ear that transmit sound to the brain. And, most of this can be avoided by simply “turning the volume down” or wearing effective ear protection (ear plugs or ear muffs) when engaged in noisy activities.

If you or a loved one is concerned about your hearing situation, consult with an audiologist not only to get your hearing tested, but to get advise on how to minimize or eliminate the toxic noise situations that may be a part of your lifestyle.
