How Do Directional Microphones Work?

October 26, 2009 @ 08:35 AM — by unknown

Hearing aids can come equipped with directional microphones. If they do, then these hearing aids are specially designed to be more sensitive to sounds coming from where the hearing aid wearer is facing, than to sounds that are coming from the front of from behind the hearing aid wearer. This technology can help make it easier to understand speech in the presence of competing background noises.

In the modern digital hearing aids of today, directional microphones can be automatic (turn on by themselves when the wearer enters a noise environment) or even adaptive (automatically locate the source of the loudest competing noise and focus specifically on reducing the level of that noise).

To learn more about how directional microphone devices may be able to help you, contact your local AuDNet audiologist today.

AuDNet, Inc. is a nationwide network of independent audiology providers. All AuDNet audiologists have earned advanced university degrees in audiology, and are fully trained to interpret case histories, carefully test and evaluate all aspects of the auditory system, advise physicians on hearing loss and balance etiologies, and treat hearing loss and balance conditions that are not amenable to medical or surgical intervention.

The first consideration in seeking hearing care is the expertise and skill of the care giver. Through the AuDNet network of audiology providers, patients have an easy and effective way of insuring that they are receiving hearing care and treatment from qualified and highly trained audiologists.
