Ten Questions to Ask A Hearing Care Provider BEFORE You Let Them Test Your Hearing
The training and expertise of the person testing your hearing IS important. State license laws do not guarantee that you are seeing someone with a degree in audiology. So, here are some questions to ask to insure that the person who is testing your hearing is a university trained audiologist:
- Do you have a professional degree in audiology from an accredited university?
- When did you graduate?
- What is the degree you have?
- How many years have you been in practice?
- Are you licensed to practice audiology in this state?
- When I visit your practice, will I be seen by you or someone else?
- Will the person treating me have a degree in audiology or will their work be supervised by a person with a degree in audiology?
- Will I receive a comprehensive hearing examination that will include at least pure tone air, bone, speech, tympanometry and acoustic reflex testing?
- Will the results of my hearing test be carefully explained to me and my loved ones before discussing treatment options?
- Will I be given treatment options from which I can choose?
