Two Are Better Than One
Next time you are at a 3D movie, try closing one eye while you are wearing those funny 3-D glasses. The 3-D goes away, doesn't it? You need two eyes to see in 3-D. Well, the same is true with hearing. Our ability to tell where a sound is coming from, or to separate one sound from another when they are present at the same time is directly linked to having two ears to listen with.
For most people who have aquired a permanent hearing loss over many years, the hearing loss has progressed at about the same rate in each ear. If a decision is made to correct this problem with only one hearing aid, then your new hearing is "myopic". You are listening with only one ear, and all of the benefits of two-ear listening are gone. For better to correct both ears equally, and secure "balanced" better hearing. This way, you can still use all of the benefits of two-ear listening, while gaining improvement in overall hearing ability. Your hearing aid wearing experience will be far better when both ears are participating.
