Hearing "Helpers"

Technology that assists individuals with hearing difficulties extends beyond hearing aids.  Today, there are a whole variety of "assisitve" listening devices that are designed to help your hearing in specific listening situations that you may find difficult, or to augment the benefit and usefulness of your hearing aids.

For improved television listening, several infrared, FM and inductive loop systems are available.  These devices bring the sound from the television right to your ear through a wireless headset that you wear.  While the volume of the television is set comfortably for everyone else in the room, you have your own independent control of volume through the wireless headset.  Not a bad way to hear the television better and keep the peace in your household!

If you are having trouble hearing the doorbell, or even your alarm clock, various devices are available to address those specific listening needs as well.  And, if you are a hearing aid wearer, you can perhaps improve your listening ability in noisy situations through the use of a remote microphone device that can be used in conjunction with your hearing aids.

If you are considering hearing help, make sure to ask your audiologist about the various assistive listening devices that are available and which ones may be appropriate for you.
