What is an Audiologist?
Audiologists are the primary health-care professionals who evaluate, diagnose, treat, and manage hearing loss and balance disorders in adults and children. They can usually be distinguished by having an "AuD" following their name but some can also have a PhD, ScD, etc. They treat all ages and types of hearing loss with the use of hearing aids, assistive listening devices and hearing rehabilitation.
Audiologists can also perform ear- or hearing-related surgical monitoring and provide hearing rehabilitation training such as auditory training, speech reading and listening skills improvement. They can be found working in a variety of settings including hospitals, universities, clinics, military, K-12 schools, etc.
