The impedance test is a measurement of the patient's status of the middle ear. It requires a patient sitting idly in a chair and we insert a small plug inside of their ear canal. At that point, they will hear some sounds and feel a little bit pressure similar to going up in an airplane. They may also hear some fairly loud sounds. It really just takes a few minutes to complete the test but I find it is a very critical part of a comprehensive evaluation of the patient's hearing.
